The sci-fi franchise every filmmaker seems to want to save from complete humiliation is receiving another installment; this time in the form of a remake-cum-sequel-cum-whatever. The hugely popular Predator series is on its way to the big screen once again, produced by celebrity filmmaker Robert Rodriquez and helmed by Nimrod Antal (who previously directed the enjoyable yet predicable Vacancy ) and is due in U.S theaters 9th July.
In order to compete with the times, an all-star cast has been recruited to take on the intergalactic beasts, including Adrien Brody, Lawrence Fishburne, Walton Goggins and Topher Grace. Monster player Derek Mears ( The Hills Have Eyes 2 and Friday the 13th remakes) is among the gang of tall men set to play the Predators with the effects being handled by none other than the boys of KNB.
From the looks of this trailer it seems the visual approach is definitely on the mark. For all intents and purposes, however, I hope this new version can deliver the intensity and excitement of the Schwarzenegger/Glover originals. However, if it can't deliver a more entertaining 90 minutes than Aliens Vs Predator and AVPR combined...then I won't know what to say.
Predators opens in theaters 9th July.
There's an Alien prequel going to be made as well
